I used to have a rule that I wouldn’t splurge on items that I could buy another brand for the fraction of the cost. This rule was particularly important to me when it came to makeup. I was so frustrated paying for items that would break or not last all day, there was no way I would pay even more money for that.
My rule started to change while I was in university. Between classes I got hooked on watching beauty YouTube videos. These ladies would talk about what was the best products out there and what wasn’t worth your money. It started off with me thinking that it still costs too much money, but then I gave in and ordered the Anastasia Brow Wiz. Yes, it cost four times as much as those in the drug store but it has also lasted 5 times as long as my drugstore brow pencils and still has more left. The quality is also incomparable. So wait… I’m not the best at math but I am pretty sure that makes it a better bang for my buck!
Now, a year later I am curious about how some of the coveted beauty items that these vloggers rave about would work for me. Sephora has made some favourites collections. I ordered two of them: The Great Cleanse and Beauty Closet (ok, I got a couple of other single items too).
The Great Cleanse contains 11 versions of face wash. To buy each on their own would cost $126US while the collection is $48US. I am hoping this is my opportunity to find one that really works for my skin.
The Beauty Closet is a collection of items that Sephora staffers use. It is a variation of makeup, nail polish, skin care, hair product and scents. The value to buy each product individually is $298US while the collection is $99US. Yes, living in The Great White North means paying more than that, but it is still much better than buying them each individually.
What is something that you feel is worth a splurge? Anything you swear by from Sephora?
If anyone is interested on what I think on any of these products, please leave a comment letting me know.
