10 Things Every Office Girl Should Have at Her Desk

We have all been there… Stuck at work wishing we had at least one of the following. If you happen to be well prepared and never in that situation, then you are probably the person that all the other ladies come to looking for these items. Feel free to forward this list to your coworkers to see how many of them have some if any of these items in their desk.

1. Phone Charger

I keep 2 phone chargers at work, 1 for myself and 1 for anyone else on my team who may need it. I get asked at least once a week for my cord which I am always happy to share. If you are new to your work team, this is a great ice breaker tool and way to make a strong first impression with your peers; have something that they need and be able to lend it with a smile on your face.

2. Feminine Products

I hope that this is self explanatory… It is never pleasant to realize that you are in need and don’t have anything in your purse. A box tucked away in your desk drawer is always a good idea.

3. Hair elastics and/or bobby pins

Even if you have short hair, hair elastics can be used for a multitude of things. If the strap breaks on your purse or even for cord management, hair elastics are handy to have around. Bobby pins are also useful for digging things out of cracks, backup paperclips, keeping your hair out of your face or keeping all of your hair elastics together.

4. Granola bars

Mid-morning or mid-afternoon tummy grumbles? Instead of raiding the vending machine, reach for your own granola bars. Not only is this healthier than candy in the vending machine but it is also budget conscious.

5. Personal coffee mug

We have communal white mugs at work but they always need to be inspected for cleanliness. I am certain that people are putting used cups back in the cupboard without washing them. The solution is to bring your own personal mug from home. Feel free to bring a mug that fits your personality but leave the offensive messaged mugs at home.

6. Water bottle or drinkinh glass with a lid

Even if you are the most coordinated person in the world, odds are that. Ot everyone around you is too. Having a lid on your water bottle or drink is always a good idea in an office. Protect your clothing, your work and your computer by keeping a lid on it.

7. Spare sweater/cardigan

Although it may be sweltering hot outside, the AC may be full blast and freezing your toes off inside. It’s always a good idea to keep a sweater on hand. It’s also good for covering up any spills on your top or holes that you didn’t spot while getting ready that morning.

8. Packaged black tights

If you already wear tights to work, you may have experienced the dreaded run… Having a spare pair is a good idea. I recommend having a packaged pair to keep them protected from getting caught on things, getting dusty or entangled. I suggest black because if you decide you need tights on to cover up an unsightly bruise you earned while walking into a filing cabinet, black is the way to go.

9. Chewing gum

Not only is gum a good way to freshen your breath after a garlic or tuna filled lunch, but it is an easy way to get a quick sugar fix if you are feeling a little low. Chewing may also be good in aiding memories. Try giving it a chew if you happen to be doing some research.

10. Ear buds

I cannot begin to tell you how many times someone has asked me if I have ear buds. If you work in an open work space, your colleagues will appreciate you playing your online training sessions or webinars through earbuds instead of your computer’s speaker. Same goes for your personal music. Please keep in mind that you may not hear someone speaking to you if you have both buds in. I suggest only having one bud in your ear at a time and to remove it when you are conversing with anyone out of respect.
Voila! What I think are the 10 things you should have on hand at work. Do you feel that I forgot something? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
