Canada’s New Government

Yesterday Canada’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, was sworn into office.

He also announced whom of the elected officials would be ministers. A lot of the ministers seem like logical choices for their positions:

  • Canada’s new Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food is a former farmer
  • The new Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development has a work history with Ford Motor Company and has been actively involved with organizations such as  the Mississauga Food Bank, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Guru Gobind Singh Children’s Foundation, as well as having served as an Ontario board member with the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
  • The new Minister of Health is a doctor.

I could go on, or you can see more information about each one of the minister on the Prime Minister’s website.

I would also like to make mention of a defining moment that Trudeau had yesterday. When asked by reporters about the reason for ministers being an unprecedented 50% women, Justin simply answered “Because it’s 2015.”

Normally I am not sure huge Liberal supporter but boy is this guy smooth! I love that he had such a simple response. Canada is a multicultural country full of men and women. You can see that in the faces of the ministers. I find that when it comes to politics, there is often a lot of time spent trying to justify things that should be obvious. Justin’s response made me hope that there are changes coming to Canada that are obviously needed. Time will tell how the Liberal government does!
