Empties: December 2015

To finish off the year, I have been able to finish off a bunch of products. I have been strong and not replacing a lot of my empties. I have made so much headway this past year clearing out my backlog of products and am proud of all the free space in my bathroom.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes

I found these wipes in the bottom of my gym bag. Since I haven’t gone to the gym in a long while, they filled the void of the lack of wipes left with all my makeup. There was maybe half a package left so it didn’t take long to get through them. These wipes are one of my favourites and when on sale and in need, I jump at the opportunity to get these ones.

David’s Tea: Santa’s Secret

I first had this tea after last Christmas when I had bought a bulk bag of it accidentally online from a sale. This year I only got a 50g bag which was enough. This tea to me is everything that I want to be sipping while spending time with my family during the holiday season. My brother even gave it a go and quite enjoyed it. I will probably get the same thing next Christmas too.

Right now this tea is 50% off on their website along with other holiday teas.

Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm

Before I could restock my Kiehl’s avocado eye cream, I had to use this up. This came in the Sephora’s Favourites box that I purchased last December. At first I hated it. My eyes would tingle when it was applied which I was uncertain about. I also did not notice much of an impact from using it. As time went on the tingle went away and I could tell the different in my under eyes when I had not applied it. I still prefer the Kiehl’s eye cream and don’t see myself getting the Algenist one again. As a side note, I didn’t like how the label came off from the oils of my hands. Maybe they should work on some better labels?

Maybelline Fit Me! Liquid Foundation w/ SPF

This foundation was on sale when I purchased it. I also thought that I would give it a go, especially considering how much I like the Maybelline Fit Me! concealers. I don’t like that there isn’t a pump on the bottle. It is tricky to get the right amount without wasting a bunch. The foundation that gets scooped back into the bottle would also become contaminated with bacteria. There are so many other foundations that I like out there that I probably won’t repurchase this one unless it’s on same amazing sale.

BareMinerals READY Touch Up Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 15

Like the Algenist cream, this translucent powder was part of the Sephora’s Favourites box that I got a year ago. The texture of this powder was something that I had never experienced before. My face felt like silk with this powder swept on it. Because it was so lovely and not a large compact, I made the choice to only use it to set my under eyes. This left a beautiful, lasting finish. Unfortunately, to repurchase would cost $28.00 and I just don’t feel like I can justify paying that to set my under eyes, no matter how silky they feel.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

This tiny bottle has a value of $21.00 and hardly lasted a month. I have had for almost a year but was saving it for what felt like a special occasion. To be fair, a little goes a long way but there is not much in here! I did like the results that the primer provided but I do not have any giant skin issues that need this quality of primer. I won’t be repurchasing it, but would recommend it for someone who’s complexion tends to be quite red. There is a blue under tone to this primer that could help cancel that out.

Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Melting Cleanser

At the age of 24 I probably do not need an ultimate anti-aging cleanser, but it came in a Sephora’s box. I did like the texture of it and it agreed well with my skin. I however did not see much of a different to the results I get with Cetaphil which is much cheaper. I will not be purchasing this again.

Covergirl The Super Sizer Mascara

I was skeptical about this mascara because of how small the brush is. After watching so many rave reviews on YouTube about it I decided to try it out. I did like this mascara but I cannot say that it is my top pick. I prefer the other Covergirl mascaras. Because of how narrow the brush is, I often felt like I would end up poking myself in the eye. It was easy to get transfer on my eyelid as well. I might get it again if my favourite are not available, but it will not be a staple in my collection.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

I love this thing. They even last a decent amount of time for myself because of how full my lashes already are. I have come to realization however that I do not need to spend so much time on my brows just to go to work. A tinted brow mascara should do more than enough. I will eventually repurchase this but for now will hold tight.

Beauty Blender

Alright, technically this is not empty since it is a sponge, but it is getting tossed away. The reason being is that it is simply worn out and I have a few in my back stock to replace it. I love this tool and if my laziness didn’t keep me from getting off my butt to go dampen it, I would use it every day.

DW Home Candle: Woodland Amber Spice

I love DW Candles, how clean they burn, how fragrant they are and how long they last. This candle has a wide wooden wick that would crackle as it burned. The scent is perfect for the fall/winter/holiday season. I could not tell you how many hours it took to burn, but I got a lot of hours out of it. I had it lit for hours each evening for maybe two months and sometimes all day on the weekend. I would buy this one again if I weren’t eager to see how great other DW Candles are. This scent also went well with the DW Home Kind Wine Cinnamon Shiraz candle that I also have (and am loving) or by itself. These candles are available at Marshall’s, HomeSense, Winners and online on DW’s website.
