9 Favourites from January 2016

Why hello there, I hope that you are having a marvelous week thus far.

Favourite posts are among my favourite to read. I often will take the input about products from them more seriously than what someone posted on a retail website. Is anyone else with my on that?

January is always great, getting to really get a good use out of anything you may have gotten over the holidays season or year end sales. A lot of my favourites for this month are just that, new things!

  1. Pasta Maker

I LOVE pasta. Last year in Italy I noticed such a difference between what we pass as pasta & pasta sauce and what is authentic Italian pasta. The olive oil here has no flavour compared to what they have. You can taste it on all of their foods. It is amazing.

Ever since, I have not purchased jarred pasta sauce but made my own. Using the boxed pasta just wasn’t quite right either. Lucky for me, I was gifted a pasta maker at Christmas. I have used it at least 5 times since. I do need to keep searching for what I feel is the right pasta recipe but I have enjoyed making and testing different ratios of eggs and flour. If anyone has a recipe they swear by, PLEASE share it with me!

2. Kitchenaid Mixer

I knew that there was one thing that I would most definitely be getting during the Boxing Day sales: a Kitchenaid Mixer. I have always dreamed about being the owner of one of these bad boys. To me, I felt like I wasn’t even a novice in the kitchen without one. Ok, I know that is a little over the top, but I just had to get one. Watching the prices fluctuate with various sales over the past year, I knew that the best deals are during Boxing Day. I made sure to save up my money for this extravagant appliance. I went through all of the flyers and online retailers that I could find for the best deal. Low and behold, Amazon was the winner at 33.3% off.

I must tell you, this appliance fulfilled all of my expectations. I can be kind of clumsy and this has reduced the amount of things that I spill on myself while trying to mix & fold simultaneously. I has freed up my hands to do other prep, clean up or answer the phone. It is a dream to clean and makes whipping egg whites the easiest task possible. If you do any baking, I highly recommend this device. It also has a stronger motor than the hand mixers out there, so there is less chance of it over heating (which I have done to a few hand mixers!).

It also happens to be beautiful sitting on my counter 🙂

3. T3 Single Pass 1″ Hair Straightener

I had been using the same side 2″ straightener for almost 9 years. I was ready for a new one to say the least. I knew that I wanted a slimmer one this time after my hair dresser curled my hair with a straightener. I also knew that getting this one device would mean that I could get rid of a few other ones.  I would be happy to get rid of a curling iron or two!

That is exactly what I ended up doing when I got this for Christmas. In came this beauty and out went my old straighter and 2 of my 3 curling irons. I love reducing my number of possessions without reducing function. It is fantastic.

As for the iron itself, I am very happy with it. It is called the Single Pass, but because of the personality my hair seems to have, it sometimes takes up to three passes to get it perfectly flat. I wouldn’t penalize the iron for that. There is a noticeable difference after the one pass without a doubt. If you want to get this iron for yourself, check Costco to save a few bucks. That is where mine came from.

4. The Body Shop Glazed Apple Bath Jelly

I bought this last Christmas during the year end sales. I hadn’t opened it until this month. I kept having baths just so that I could use it! I loved the crisp sweet apple scent and the beautiful bubbles that it would make. It feels like Jell-o, but placed under running water it foams right up. The bubbles lasted longer than I did in the tub which was fantastic as well. It is a pet peeve of mine for them to dissolve before I am ready to get out.

I went and checked out the Body Shop’s website and it looks like they don’t offer the bath jellies anymore. If they bring it back, I highly recommend getting yourself some!

5. Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara

This is an oldie but a goodie. I had stopped using this mascara solely because I only like to have one mascara at a time and I was tempted in the store to try some of the new ones that have come out. I have mentioned in my products that I regret buying post that I was not a fan of the other mascaras that I tried. I am very happy to be back to using the Lash Blast and will be hesitant to try other ones again. Don’t try to mess with a good thing!

6. Erin Ireland

A person can be a favourite right?! I have never met this lady, but if I ever do, I will have to give her a hug. Erin is a Vancouver based vegan who posts so many Snapchat stories about the food that she makes.

I am not vegan, but because of being lactose intolerance I often struggle to find alternatives to eat. Erin has opened my eyes to so many options. Did you know that you can make cheese out of nuts??? Have you heard of something called nutritional yeast? Apparently it has a cheesy flavour to it and is great to add in place of things like parmesan cheese. I ordered myself some yesterday and am itching for it to get here. I can’t wait to try making pesto, sprinkling it on my popcorn, and even make my own faux-cheese.

She also made a vegan deep dish pie the other day that is drool worthy. There is a picture on her Instagram and the recipe on her website.

7. SWORKIT

This app is definitely my favourite for the month of January. It was really what made my personal challenge so successful. I explained how it works in my January Personal Challenge Conclusion post but will give you a quick run down.

This app is a free personal trainer in your pocket. It gets you to do various exercises for 30 seconds at a time while demonstrating the movements on your screen. You can skip to a different exercise if you don’t like the one given and it gives you reminders that you haven’t done your exercises for the day. LOVE IT. All the exercises are super easy, no equipment needed. I kid you not, anyone can do it. No more excuses for me!

8. Bossypants

I have talked about Mindy Kaling’s first book, Amy Poehler’s book and now I am making my way through Tina Fey’s. I am really enjoying it. The only reason that I haven’t finished it yet is because I haven’t had the chance to. Hopefully I will find time in the next few days so I can post a more in depth review for you 🙂 Stay tuned for that one.

9. David’s Tea – Crème Caramel Rooibos

HOLY MOLY IS THIS AMAZING. This team is everything you wish caramel tasted like. I am not joking you. It is rich, it is not too sweet, and just pure bliss.

I saved this one for last on the list because you need to go right now and get yourself some. This is not a drill. Go and get yourself some. Now. Go.

Why are  you still here? Go!

Alright, maybe you already have that tea so decided to finish the pack you had first before getting a second.

Thank you for checking out my favourites for January 2016. What was something extra special about your month?

If you have a favourite posts up on your own blog please leave me a link below so I can check it out. They are some of my favourite things to check on (see what I did there?).

Hope you all have a lovely February!
