Workout Review: Jillian Michaels’ 6 Week 6 Pack – Level 1

I did this workout back on Sunday morning and let me tell you; I have been a hurting lady the last few days! My muscles are burning and it definitely isn’t just my abs!

Trying to get this month’s personal challenge done has been a bit of a struggle. Work has been a lot of long hours and I just want to eat and sleep when I get home. I don’t want to be a complete fail to myself this month so am trying to push what I can out of the last two weeks. The 6 Week 6 Pack – Level 1 seemed as though it would be the perfect starting point. I have always found ab exercises to be the easiest to get into, especially with my matchstick arms.

If you decide to give this video a try, I suggest grabbing yourself a mat to lay on. I did it on the hardwood floor and started to get pressure points on my back and side depending on which exercises were in progress.

There are a lot of things that I like about this workout. Jillian makes sure to tell you the importance of stretching, pushing yourself, encouraging yourself and making sure that you have adequate instruction on form to prevent injury.

You go through the circuit with Jillian being much kinder than what we have seen her as on the Biggest Loser. Don’t be fooled! Once you have been walked through each exercise you do them all again at twice the pace.  She gets into her boss mode and starts yelling, pushing you to keep going regardless of the fatigue you start to feel. You also have the option to up the difficulty as you go.

Jillian is accompanied by two assistance. One of them is doing the basic, less difficult version while the other does a more challenging version. I like that a lot about this video because if you want to do it with friends you don’t need to be at the same level of ability. This also gives you the option to come back later when you are stronger and do the harder exercises to keep pushing yourself.

None of the exercises that were done would I consider difficult. There is some minor balance required but there is no reason why someone couldn’t do everything they see.

The last few minutes of this video are just as important at the stretching at the beginning and the workout itself. Jillian takes you through a cool down, sitting on the floor, while encouraging you to acknowledge the positive decision  you made getting through your workout as your heart rate returns back to normal.

In total this video takes about 40 minutes from start to finish. You will work up a sweat so be sure that if you have time to shower afterwards. You will also feel tight muscles all over your body but mostly in your thighs, abs and lower back.

I was able to find the video posted on YouTube, so it didn’t cost me a thing!

Give it a go and let me know how you did!
