I completely missed the boat on getting my April favourites posted and figured that it is too late now. Then the thought struck me that there is nothing stopping me from doing up a mid-month favourites!
Instagram Account: TSA
Did you guys know that this exists!? The TSA posts pictures of some of the craziest things that people try to bring through security in American airports. I am not even joking, there is a bottle full of seahorses on there. Go explore it, I promise that you will not be disappointed.
My Slow Cooker
I have a small slow cooker which is one of my most used appliances these days. With a busy schedule it is great to pop something in there in the morning and have a meal to come home to. I also use it to make various kind of overnight oatmeal. I don’t even put it away, I just keep using it all of the time. The one thing that I am not that excited about is that most “summery” foods aren’t made in the slow cooker. I will probably need to pack it up soon.
West Side Story
The Citadel in Edmonton is currently hosting a production of West Side Story. I was lucky enough to see it before it officially opened. I was thoroughly entertained by the dancing, acting, singing and Bernstein’s incredible score. If you don’t know who Bernstein is, you may want to look him up. We spent a lot of time in my university conducting courses studying him and his style. He is in a league of his own.
If you are able, I highly recommend this production. There are definitely adult themes, so leave the small children at home.
The People of Alberta
This is a bit of a random one, but probably my top favourite right now. If you are unaware, Alberta is dealing with a MAJOR fire in the Fort McMurray area. Over 80,000 people were evacuated from their homes. Everywhere I go there are people trying to help; bottle drives, donation bins, restaurants offering free food, first responders from all over going to help, and the list goes on.
The other day there was a lady from Fort Mac in line at the drug store in front of my mom and I. My mom offered to pay for her items (necessities like tooth paste) and she broke down in tears. She was telling us that she is so overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers and doesn’t know how to thank any of us. Hearing this from her made me fill with pride for my fellow Albertans. Some of these people have no homes to return to and a very long journey ahead of them to get their lives back to normal. Knowing that we are helping them on that journey and making it as easy for them as we can is wonderful. Lets keep it up!
Grace & Frankie
This Netflix original series just cracks me up. How I could possibly relate to Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin is beyond me but this show is awesome. Maybe because this show circles around family and friends and all of the dynamics that come with it, I can’t stop watching it. Netflix came out with the second season 10 days ago and I have now seen them all. There is a stellar cast, lots of laughs and beautiful décor (yes, that is part of why I watch the show).
Alright, there we have it; my current favourite things. Let me know in the comments what you are loving right now. I need some Netflix suggestions so please share!
