Over the weekend I had the pleasure of being without internet for most of Saturday. When I first went to turn on my Netflix and have no success I started to panic. What was I going to do without access to the world wide web?
This question to myself brought a bit of a giggle out of me. There was a day when I did live without the internet and I have quite fond memories of those days. I got out my notebook and started to jot down a list of things that I could happily do without a wifi connection. Here are what I think are the top 10 items:
Although we are certainly inspired by Pinterst for baking, there are these great things called cookbooks that are full on wonderful recipes. These books finally got the dust knocked off of them as I cracked their spines for the first time in years. It was like discovering a whole lost world!
2. Honey-Do List
We all have those items around the house that we have been putting off for ages; cleaning out the car, weeding the yard, changing the furnace filter… whatever it is, you don’t have YouTube around to suck you into the vortex of wasted time so why not get some of them done? You will realize how much stress those little things were leaving you with once they’re done and you feel the weight lift from your shoulders.
3. Read A Book
Although Buzzfeed can have a lot of interesting articles and keep us busy while bored, when is the last time you became submersed in what you were reading? This is a perfect opportunity to start or finish those books that have been laying around for who knows how long. If you don’t have any books, certainly check out your local library.
4. Take A Nap
One of the best things to do on a weekend, no matter what your age. Put your feet up, close your eyes and float away to dream land.
5. Call A Friend
The good news is that your contact list in your phone works without the internet. Instead of sending a text or tagging them in a post, pick up your phone and bless yourself with the opportunity to hear their voice. Enjoy getting to hear the tone in someone’s responses!
6. Go For A Walk
With Pokémon Go now available in Canada, more people are getting out and about. Why not take a walk or a hike without your phone and see what there is around your house. I found out that there is a man-made lake in my neighbourhood that I had never seen before!
7. Clean Out Your Closet
If your closet is anything like mine It is always a good idea to go through your closet and get rid of stuff. You can try on everything you own and toss anything that doesn’t fit or that you won’t wear again. Shoes, scarfs, mitts, socks… they’re all things you can probably downsize on.
If you are feeling really ambitious, this task can go for your pantry or fridge too.
8. Prep for the Week Ahead
By the time that I had internet again I had all of my outfits for the week picked out, overnight oats in the slow cooker and vegetables prepped to take in my lunch. Even though it is only Wednesday, it has saved some time and stress in the mornings.
9. Watch a DVD
Better yet, if you have any VHS, watch those! Its always fun to go through your old collection and watch an old favourite. My favourites include Singing in the Rain and Fight Club.
10. Get Out of Your House
Why stay home? Go to a movie, visit some friends or family, hit up the mall or take a day trip somewhere.
What do you do when you are disconnected?
